Young Adults Retreat
Week 3B August 4th – 10th 2019
Young Adults Retreat (ages 18–29) with Deepa Gulrukh Patel, Jacob Ellenberg & Jayanara Fitzwilliam
“Every Moment is a chance of a lifetime” – Pir Vilayat Inayat-Khan
Life is full of possibilities. And demands. There can be so much of both that we lose sight of what we truly value. At times, we might enjoy navigating gracefully, living up to our potential. At other times, we might feel held back, constrained, or stuck. Drawn by the desire to feel the freedom, creativity, and authenticity of who we know we truly are, we seek supportive tools, perspectives, and community.
This summer, Deepa Gulrukh, Jacob and Jayanara will use breath practices, embodied inquiry, movement, meditation, the elements and our imagination to bring us into this moment.
Together we will also find inspiration and guidance from the world’s spiritual, scientific, and artistic traditions to help us deepen our connection to ourselves, others, and life’s constant invitation to become who we dare to be.
Deepa Gulrukh Patel
Deepa Gulrukh Patel is a campaigner and facilitator with a special interest in the arts, interdisciplinary collaboration, contemplation, diversity, and equality: working with organisations like the BBC, ActionAid and the Arts Council of England. Deepa has been a student of the inner life since her teens and is the director of Zenith Camp. She is also currently working with the Helen Storey Foundation on a variety of projects with Syrian refugees in Jordan at the Zaatari Refugee camp. Volunteering is important part of her life; in the UK she is Chair of Tamasha Theatre Company and The Loss Foundation, a charity that supports people bereaved by cancer. In the USA she is an advisor to the New Monastic Foundation.
Jacob Ellenberg has been a student of Sufism for 20 years. He has 15 years’ experience in founding start-ups and working with them and Fortune 250 companies in the fields of organizational strategy, video production, marketing, and storytelling. Jacob holds a BA from New York University in Mysticism and Organizational Behaviour.
Jayanara Linda Fitzwilliam has spent every summer of her life in the Zenith Camp since she was eight years old (except one, when she was in India). Remembering her childhood summers in Camp she says: “The Children’s Tent and the whole Camp ground and the community was like paradise on earth for me, and it recharged my spirit for the whole year.” She feels very honored to be taking on the role of the Children’s Tent leader in 2019, and offer the kids a place to playfully be who they really are.
Jayanara is a mother, yoga teacher and educator for dance and movement, a healer and a facilitator of sufi events within the Inayati Order. She currently lives with her daughter and her husband in Bern, where she teaches yoga, parents-kids classes, holds women circles and retreats. She also works in her practice of Lotus Light Healing giving treatments.
